Elliot Lake Mining Monument & Memorial Park

The Miner’s Memorial Park in Elliot Lake stands as a testament to both the resilience of its mining community and the profound sacrifices made by its workers. Designed by the talented artist Laura Brown Breetvelt, herself a former resident of Elliot Lake, this park serves as a poignant homage to the town’s mining heritage. At the heart of the park lie three striking monuments, each carrying its own significance.

Firstly, the Mining Monument, was build to honour the hard working miners who risked their lives each day and the community and families that supported them. It’s a powerful reminder of their courage and the indelible mark they left on Elliot Lake’s history.

Adjacent to the Mining Monument lies the Miners’ Memorial, a solemn tribute engraved with the names of those miners who tragically lost their lives to workplace accidents or occupational illnesses. This monument stands as a perpetual memorial to their sacrifice, ensuring that their memory lives on in the hearts and minds of all who visit.

Completing the trio of monuments is the newly erected addition, the Prospector’s Monument. This recent addition is a tribute to the prospectors who first came to Elliot Lake and staked the area and discovered uranium deposits.

Together, these three monuments form the cornerstone of the Miner’s Memorial Park, a place where past and present converge to honor the resilience, sacrifice, and community spirit that define Elliot Lake’s mining legacy. The park offers a serene setting amidst the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
